Day 9 - The Weight of Unspoken Words
Words unspoken can feel like stones in our pockets – silent but heavy. Each thought or feeling we keep inside adds to the weight we carry through daily life.
Suppressing emotions is a natural defence: aloud, they can feel risky or vulnerable, but over time that weight can manifest as tension, sleepless nights or a pervasive sense of unease.
When we don’t share our inner world, our minds replay conversations that never happened, anchor us in past hurts or spin worries into worst-case scenarios.
That mental impact can make it hard to focus, rest or connect with others:
- Why stay silent?
- Fear of judgement
- Desire to protect loved ones, or
- Simply not knowing how to start the conversation.
Yet openness can be a relief; a chance to offload and lighten the load.
So What can help?
- Journaling is a safe space for raw honesty.
- Creative outlets such as drawing, music, movement; allows emotions to flow without words.
- Talking with a trusted friend or professional gives perspective and support.
- Practising small disclosures like saying “I’m sad today” or “I’m feeling stuck” builds confidence.
Question:
What’s one thought or feeling you’ve been holding inside, and what might shift if you voiced it today?
This is a conversation for us all – people struggling and those who want to help and support.
